Birdwatching

There are many worthwhile activities on Robinson Crusoe Island which provide the opportunity to learn about its biological diversity, including observation of the island’s native species and treks focusing on botanical or geological features.

One option is birdwatching, which is excellent along the coastline, where petrels breed, as well as inland and in the town of Juan Bautista. Sightings here often include the island’s native hummingbird, the beautiful Juan Fernández firecrown (Sephanoides fernandensis), the American kestrel (Falco sparverius fernandensis), the short-eared owl (Asio flammeus) and other species.
